Overview
Quad biking in Merzouga puts you in the driving seat at the edge of the Sahara. You ride your own quad over the sand of Erg Chebbi, for as long as you book, at the pace you are comfortable with.
Erg Chebbi is soft sand, not track, and that changes how a quad feels. The dunes rise and fall in long waves, the highest to around 150 m, so you are always climbing, cresting or coming down.
It suits people who like to be in control. You set the speed, and the guide shows you the way through the dunes. Some riders want pace; others mostly stop on a ridge to look around. Both are fine.
Because you book by the hour, it is easy to fit around the rest of your day in Merzouga: an hour before the camel trek, or longer if you get hooked.

Ride the Erg Chebbi dunes
You drive your own quad over the soft sand, at your own pace. Follow the guide's instructions: the far side of a dune can be much steeper than the side you climb, and the guide knows where the drops are.

When your time is up you are back in the village, with the rest of the day free: for a camel trek, a 4x4 excursion or simply the view.

Good to know before you go
Riding safely
Drive at your own pace and tell us when you book if it is your first time on a quad. On the sand, follow the guide's instructions; the guide knows where the steep drops are.
Cover up against sand
A scarf or buff over your nose and mouth, and sunglasses. Sand gets everywhere once the quads are moving.
Closed shoes
Trainers or boots rather than sandals; you need a firm foot on the footrest.
Choose your hour
Summer middays are hot on the sand. Earlier or later is cooler, and the light on the dunes is better.
A jacket in winter
Winter days can be bright and mild, but the wind on a moving quad feels cold.
How to book
