Overview
A Merzouga buggy tour is the dune ride you share. One buggy, two people and the orange sand of Erg Chebbi all around you, for €130 per buggy.
A dune buggy feels different from a quad: you sit side by side with someone, closer to a small car than a motorbike, and you share the moment at the top of each ridge.
Erg Chebbi gives you plenty to work with. The dunes rise to around 150 m in places, and the sand changes colour with the light, from pale gold in the middle of the day to deep orange late in the afternoon.
You drive at your own pace. Take it easy and stop often for photos, or follow the guide over bigger dunes once you feel confident. If neither of you wants to drive, the 4x4 excursion is the better choice.

Meet us in Merzouga
The activity runs from Merzouga, the village at the edge of Erg Chebbi. If you are already in Merzouga or on one of our tours, tell us where you are staying when you book, and we confirm the details when we reply.

Into the Erg Chebbi dunes
You drive side by side over the sand at your own pace. Stay on the line the guide shows you: the far side of a dune can be much steeper than the side you climb.

Back in Merzouga
After the ride you are back in the village, with the rest of the day free for a camel trek or simply the view of the dunes.

Good to know before you go
Driving safely
Drive at your own pace and follow the guide's instructions. Tell us when you book if it is your first time driving on sand.
Scarf and sunglasses
Sand flies when the wheels spin. A scarf over your nose and mouth and a pair of sunglasses make the ride much more pleasant.
Clothes that can get dusty
Light, long layers protect you from sun and sand. Closed shoes work better than sandals on the pedals.
Pick your time
Summer middays are hot. Earlier or later in the day is cooler, and the light on the sand is warmer.
A jacket in winter
Winter days can be mild, but the air feels cold once you are moving.
How to book
